Cooking Watusi and Bison

I just received an email from some clients regarding how they liked their Watusi and Bison meat which they harvested with Texas Hunt Lodge. Here are a few recipe ideas:

The Watusi is very lean and a little tough, which is no surprise. Flavor is interesting - as there isn't any flavor at all!  No beef flavor, nor game flavor!  It is bizarre.

Regular hamburger grind is recommended, chilli grind was a bit tough (at least with that recipe). I'll turn ...

March Madness

March is always a busy month for us. All the kids are on Spring Break and then Whitetail season is finally over for those that have MLD permits. The only dates we still have available for March are weekdays, and even then, only about 6 of them.

We will be hosting some big groups this month including (9) hunters next weekend, and (15) hunters the following weekend. We have already knocked down some fantastic trophies this month. Take a look online here

Texas Hunt Lodge's New Addition

Many of our clients asked to see photos of the newest addition to the Texas Hunt Lodge Staff, well here she is.  Viola Marie Bulkley was born last week, November 17th.  She weighed 7lb 5 oz and 20 inches in length.  She is doing well at home with mom, Joanie, and I get to see her occasionally when not hunting with you guys.

Busiest Month of Hunting - October

October has finally come and gone, and now it's nearly Whitetail Season.  October 2009 was the busiest month on record for Texas Hunt Lodge.  We hosted clients whom bagged 52 animals last month.

From Bison with Compound Bows, Monster Water Buffalo, multiple Elk hunts, (5) Scimitar Horned Oryx Hunts, Red Stag, Axis Bucks, Fallow Bucks, Rams, Catalina Goats, Pronghorn, Blackbuck Antelope, Hybrid Ibex, etc...we put a dent in the Wild Game herd of Kerr County.  See October client photos here: http://www.texashuntlodge.com/client_photos.asp

Now, we're gearing up for our South Texas Whitetail Season...we currently have 11 spots remaining for ...<< MORE >>

Another Big Weekend of Hunting

Saturday was a wet one, raining pretty much most of the day, but we were still able to get some South Texas clients on a few great animals.  Jad Harper took this 7x7 Elk Bull which scored approximately 370 B&C.

Then, Mitchel, Jad's brother, took an Elk, 8x7, scoring 367 B&C shortly after.

Before lunch, Jad took his 2nd animal of the day, a Gold Medal Hungarian Fallow which long tines....

The rain really started to come down around lunch time, so we took an hour out of the hunt for some Coopers BBQ in Junction before heading back out and throwing the ranch vehicle in 4 wheel drive.

After another hour, we spotted a group of rams, and Jad took this great looking Black Hawaiian Ram with 31 inch horns

The shot scared up some more Fallow deer, when a Chocolate fallow which I've tried to put client's on for the past month, finally presented a shot for Mitchel.  This thing is huge folks and the photo doesn't do it justice

We wrapped up the day when Bobby Serna took a fantastic 8x8 Gold Medal Stag

Congrats to these Hunters from Eagle Pass, Texas on some great trophies last weekend.

Great Hunts this Week - Aoudad, Elk and more...

We had some great hunts last weekend....2 clients from St. Francisville, La visited us on Saturday and took these great looking 6x5 Elk Bulls.  They also bagged a few rams as well, one with a bow!

Then on Monday night, a client from Pennsylvania shot this Monster Aoudad Ram right at dusk...we searched for him for about an hour with no success, but we all knew he was hit good, so we resumed our search the next morning, and he was only about 30 yards from the impact spot when we found him

We have 4 more hunters arriving today, so stay tuned for some new hunt photos early next week.  Big Elk and Big Stag should be hitting the ground again!
