A World Record for the Owner

In my first year of the hunting industry, I think I've personally guided hunters on 9-12 World Record Hunts, and last Friday, I finally got my own, but not intentionally.

I was guiding some hunters out on Las Catarinas Ranch last weekend, when one of the ranch staff called me to say there was a hurt Scimitar Horned Oryx that had just crawled up to a water hole.  We made another lap of hunting on the south end of the ranch, and headed towards where he spotted the Scimitar.  It looked like the old bull had a broken hip or something, so I decided to put it down myself.  I had a crossbow, Horton 175, in my truck, so approached to within 40 yards, and let the bolt fly.  I hit the Scimitar Bull in the heart and lungs, and he was done in a matter of 2 short minutes.

Well, we put the tape to him, and guess what?  A new world Record with a Crossbow for both Safari Club International and Trophy Game Records of the World.  Not the way I expected to get a record Scimitar, but I'll hang him on the Hunt Lodge wall regardless.  I nice looking Bull measuring over 40 inches in length.  And, we have about a dozen more left on the ranch larger than he is, so get your rifle and come on out!
